My story
Hi, I'm Jo.
I worked in the world of business administration for almost 30 years, refining documents, website content, and publications for organisations as diverse as charities, local authorities and universities. My career spanned roles supporting academic, clinical, and public sector projects, where I regularly proofread and edited complex documents – from research papers and funding bids to business cases and public communications. Over the years, my passion for precision, clarity, and consistency has helped countless writers to shape their message so it hits the mark.

​My love of language started early, and when I’m not fine-tuning other people’s writing you’ll find me devouring books at an alarming rate. I set myself a goal of reading 52 books each year, but I always overshoot – usually landing somewhere around 60! My Kindle is my best friend, and I’ve long had a habit of using the "report content error" tool to flag typos and grammar slips in published books (yes, I’m that person). One day, it dawned on me – I could actually get paid to do this!
That lightbulb moment led me to train with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), where I honed my existing skills and learnt a whole plethora of new ones. Founding Platinum Proofreading was the natural next step.
My unique combination of administrative expertise, editorial precision, and sector-specific experience allows me to offer clients more than just error correction: I bring insight, contextual understanding, and a strong commitment to improving your content. I believe that good editing isn’t just about fixing mistakes – it’s about making your writing the best it can be while maintaining your unique voice.
